Nel 1946 il Reparto Corse della Bianchi costruì sei telai per Fausto Coppi, tre dei quali da pista; il nostro è il quarto per numero. Quasi certamente la costruzione si può attribuire a Luigi Valsassina, che in quello stesso anno lasciò la Bianchi per andare a lavorare per Cino Cinelli presso l’omonima ditta. La certezza è data dal fatto che nei registri del Reparto Corse è annotato come ultimo telaio costruito da Valsassina il n. 116903, il primo di Gilardi il n. 116904, sempre del 1946, ma in data successiva al nostro che porta il n. 91278.
Questa bicicletta rappresenta un esemplare di grande rarità in quanto equipaggiata con cambio Campagnolo Corsa, caso unico nel corso di tutta la nostra ricerca.
Tornando al telaio ci preme sottolineare la lavorazione magistrale delle congiunzioni, mentre relativamente all’attacco dei forcellini posteriori al nodo di sella rileviamo che questi ultimi sono un po’ più massicci rispetto ai telai del 1948 n. 171680 e 681.

In 1946 the Bianchi Racing Department built six frames for Fausto Coppi, three of them for the track; ours is the fourth in number. The construction can almost certainly be attributed to Luigi Valsassina, who in the same year left Bianchi to go to work for Cino Cinelli at the company of the same name. The certainty is given by the fact that in the registers of the Racing Department it is noted as the last frame built by Valsassina the n. 116903, the first of Gilardi the n. 116904, also from 1946, but later than ours which bears the no. 91278.
This bicycle represents a very rare specimen as it is equipped with a Campagnolo Corsa gearbox, a unique case throughout our research.
Returning to the frame, we would like to emphasize the masterly workmanship of the conjunctions, while relatively to the attachment of the rear dropouts to the saddle node we note that the latter are a bit more massive than the frames of 1948 n. 171680 and 681.
